How Do I Love Thee... Let me Count The Yamas...

You can talk positive all you want, but this does not mean that all of your life will magickly become filled with butterflies, cupcakes, n' teddybears.  The first two limbs of yoga, Yamas and Niyamas are of vital importance to a human being who truly wants to be strong.  It's not all about whether or not you can touch your toes, how well you can do chaturanga dandasana pushups, or whether or not you can get your leg behind your head in eka pada sirsasana.  It is about how you deliberately and consciously handle that which you have been given: a great and powerful mind, free will, and this precious body, which is one and the same as this earth, for you are presently embodying this sensual earthly experience.

When you encounter something that you are finding to be unpleasant, uncomfortable or displeasing, it is a cue to step up to something which will grant you the opportunity to grow.  An intimate understanding of the yamas and niyamas of yoga helps us to handle things that are unpleasant with much more ease. Here's a way to apply them all to this situation:
AHIMSA -  Is something that you irritated by or made uncomfortable by HARMING you? Think. Chances are NO.
SATYA, be honest with yourself. Do not deny that you are irritated, disgusted, angry, or uncomfortable.  Let's hope your head is a safe place to start sorting the real from the non-real.  Even if you are disturbed by an external that you are not enjoying, yet choose to smile through it.  Do not rob yourself of the opportunity to openly greet your current attitude. Hey!
ASTEYA Non-stealing!  We can steal from ourselves in very subtle ways and become our own victim, robbing ourselves of growth opportunities.
BRAHMACHARYA Remember that God loves you always. Always love God. If you can not embrace the idea of "God", do not forget that you have a spirit-double, which is always accompanying you.  It is a mater of fact that there is a realm outside of the material, which even the most secular physicist can tell you.   Always love spiritual, the ever-present subtle realm beyond mater.  Staying in Brahmacharya, in my modern sexually liberated understanding, is that you remember that there is something beyond the body.  It is easier to enjoy the bliss of being when you are anchored in the cultivation of a deep love of God/Holy Spirit/Jagannath/Vishnu/Krishna/Kali/Shiva/Sacred Space/The universe/Thee All/Jesus/Flying Spaghetti Monster. This way we are growing more and more aligned with a higher power that exists outside the realm of normal human comprehension. This alignment supports the true mission of yoga - union with your spirit, which is inseparably one and the with as the quintessential source of life.  This is why yoga is a lifestyle of health; it is beyond health.  We are awakening to and embracing our true nature, that which brings us to evolve into the sublime super-natural beings we are being constantly denied the embrace and true revealing of, through the various snares of distortions and distractions in this world.
